Thermal "G"
Beginners Corner

Welcome to Thermal "G's" Beginners page. The Eagles encourage new flyers and have dedicated information here to help the beginner get aquainted with the various items a new modeler needs to succeed in the hobby. We emphasize Safety First and would recommend reviewing information found in our "Safety" page as well as other resources. We highly recommend seeking out a competent instructor and learning from their direction as opposed to attempting to fly alone. If you build your first model, you'll have accumulated considerable hours into its construction. Buying an ARF means you've spent more money on your trainer. Both methods guarantee a great deal of disappointment should your first attempt at flight fail.

Local flying clubs are the best resource for advice and instruction. Membership is typically nominal but usually requires AMA or other type insurance before being allowed to fly.
Thermal "G" has an excellent instruction program. You can contact members here through the "Membership" page or, stop by the field any sunny afternoon. We encourage visitors to our field. If you do plan a visit, please keep a few rules in mind;

1. Do not bring pets onto the field.
2. Avoid bringing small children for both their safety and the safety of our models!
3. When entering the field, get eye contact from one of the flyers to ensure they know you are approaching.
4. Do not cross the field if planes are in process of taking off or landing.
5. Don't attempt to handle the models unless invited to do so.
It is not recommended to fly from public areas such as school yards or parking lots due to the proximity of children, houses and vehicles. Much misconception exists about the hazards associated with our hobby. The larger and heavier our models become, the greater the hazard associated with them. Responsibility is the key to maintaining safety in every flight.
