Minutes for Club Meeting - 5/6/12
1. Gary Niemi read the meeting minutes from the March meeting. Henry Theobald was not present, so no Treasurer's report was given.
2. Cliff Bendig/Gary Niemi shared the highlights of the air show planning held Friday, April 27th.
3. Cliff announced the opening of the flying field. Members were reminded to keep the vehicles off of the flying circle and main runway, no flying behind the pit, and remember to observe and obey the 5 mph speed limit on the road.
4. Cliff then spoke about modifications to the starting stand to eliminate the pin box. This will also house the fire extinguisher and first aid kit. In regards to the first aid kit replacement, Dr. Barry Kissoondial will provide this kit, and give a first aid briefing at the June meeting.
5. Sam Freeman and Rich Devore installed a charging unit to the deep cell 12 volt battery that has been configured to run the lights at the shelter. Two more lights will be added to the system. This system runs solely for the lights and is not for charging flight or flight equipment batteries.
6. Cliff announced that the club air races will begin June 10th, and every 2nd Sunday through September. Pilots must be ready to fly for the 1st heat starting at 10:00am. Spectators must not approach the field during a race in progress. Please wait until all planes are on the ground.
7. A club newsletter will be published during the week of the May 7th. Members were asked to contribute material to Cliff/Gary.
8. Two new members were welcomed into the club; Miguel Rivas, Sr., and his son Miguel Rivas Jr..
9. The club will have a Fun Fly May 20th at the field from 11:00am – til? The club will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, and soft drinks.
10. Al Policano reminded everyone to be conscientious about engine noise. He suggested selecting appropriate mufflers for your engines or adding sound damping materials to mufflers. Jim Dougherty also suggested using alternative propeller sizes, insulting muffler extensions, and soft mounts for engines to reduce noise and vibration.
11. Murray Steinberg reminded everyone about our club's participation at the “Gathering at French Creek” July 13th - 15th . More information to come.
12. Discussion about which model airplane the club should purchase for the air show raffle was held and the Super Cub RTF was chosen.
13. Murray asked about people supporting Lloyd Gildersleeve with working the gate at the air show. Cliff will contact Lloyd to confirm his attendance.
14. Greg Rubin inquired if turbines would be present at this year's show and so far, the answer is yes.
15. Items for Sale: Dale Edinger – Brand new Thunder Tiger .75 four stroke asking $150. Don Seidl – Rock Climber RC Truck with radio asking $250
16. Bob Eakin built a full scale trike motorcycle and brought photos to show.
17. The meeting concluded with a 50/50 raffle for and free raffle of a Super Cub Airplane. Winners were Jim Praetzel ($32 - 50/50), and Charles Giewont (Super Cub Airplane).
