January 2014

When was the last time you heard the old phrase "baby it's cold outside?" My wife heard it at least 10 times a couple weeks ago… every time I came back into the house from shoveling snow or back home from getting airplane supplies. Now it's starting to warm up just in time for the club fun fly on January 26th at Vo- tech starting at noon and going until whenever. The club will furnish hot dogs and great Greek sauce. Adam said there will be enough heat for everyone so there's no excuse not to show up and have a great time, along with some fresh air. Hope to see you all there!

Now with the fun fly coming up it's a great time to start checking your batteries for what's old and what's new, and figuring out what you're going to need before the new season begins. That way you won’t be running around pulling your hair out, charging old batteries that might be a little sketchy to use for another year. This way you'll be ready for that first calm sunny 60° day when everybody else is out flying. So turn off the TV and computer and get down in your shop and do it.

The club web site will add a new web master: Sam Freeman. He will be taking over from Gary, who did a fantastic job from its initiation. Gary doesn't have the time anymore so Sam volunteered and it should be in full swing by the end of the month. The website is a great place to catch up on all the club activities, and if you missed a meeting Kerry has the minutes almost word for word right down to who wins the raffle. It's there for all club members to use, so if you have something you want to sell, giveaway or have pictures of any event by all means send it in.

The club dinner meeting will be held at the Siebenbuerger's club (2114 French Street) on February 9. Doors open at 6:00 PM with dinner being served at 7:00 PM upstairs in the ballroom. If you guys remember the last time it was there we had plenty of space for airplane displays and flying micro helicopters or airplanes. If you're planning on going please send Kerry Raydo and email ( or give her a call/text (392-9603) so she can have a head count before February 1st. If you need the handicap lift to get upstairs for the dinner please let Kerry know so we can make arrangements to have it ready.

I talked to Rich the other day about his new Christmas present he got from his family, a real flight (RF=7) that he has hooked up to his big screen TV. This is a great tool for new and experienced flyers to keep your thumbs nimble and sharp during the winter months. It is also good for learning new maneuvers for the coming year. The new simulators are just about as real as you can get, and hooked up to your own transmitter it's even better yet. You can download your airplanes from the internet and be flying them all winter long. Just think if everyone had one the guys in the pits wouldn't have to be diving under the pin box or the trailer when you hear that "look out!" at the beginning of the flying season.

Happy New Year and I'll see you at all of the events.

Please contact Kerry before February 1st if you plan on attending the dinner on February 9th.
