PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hello Everyone,
Spring is finally here, and the flying season is off to a good start. Time to bring out your new airplanes and see how they work. You were so careful building it, and careful not to " bump it ", while loading the car, now it's time to take it up a couple hundred feet, and see if anything " bad " happens. Aren't maiden flights fun ??
You may have noticed the gate and poles at the driveway entrance, and the" slow, kids playng" sign. I'd like to thank Ron for helping with the work on the gate, and also, Mahlon, Cliff and Ron for clearing the trees along the driveway. Remember to keep the speed down to 5 mph on the driveway, and to fly on the field side of the wind tee.
Let's see, Club Racing starts the second Sunday in June, so finish building, or fixing your racer, and also, don't forget the new engines this year. Rory has them in stock at the hobby shop. We could always use more participants in racing, it's alot of fun, very low key, and a great way to improve your flying skills. It is designed so anyone can join in. You don't have to be an expert pilot, they let ME do it. If you want to give it a try, give Rory or me a call, we would be glad to help you out.
We are having a Spring Fun Fly on Sat. May 17th.at the field. If it rains, it will be on the following Sat. May 24th. There will be hot dogs, hamburgs, maybe some special chile sauce , pop, coffee ,,,yummmmm, oh yea, don't forget to bring a plane to fly. Cliff is the CD, and I'm sure he will be easy on us, because everyone is "rusty" after the long winter.
The jet guys flew at Titusville last Saturday, and it was a good time. Don't forget you are welcome to come fly with us, or just come to watch. There is always plenty of " entertainment " at Titusville, so I promise, you won't be bored. Also, when we actually get one in the air, they are very cool to watch. Pay particular attention to the landings, as sometime they're smooth, and sometimes , well, not so smooth. While we're on the jets, the Oil Creek Flyers are having their 2nd annual Jet Meet on June 20, 21, and 22nd. You are encourged to attend, and can even camp out there Friday, or Saturday night. There is no spectator fee, and it's a great family event.
The Thermal-G Air Show is Saturday, August 9th, at the Vo-Tec School. This year the show benefits Make A Wish, and we have also invited the Erie Classics to bring some cool cars in to supplement the activities. If you would like to help with the air show, please contact Cliff, myself, or Bert . There is plenty to do, and sharing the work not only makes it easier, but alot more fum.
The next club meeting will be Sunday, June, 1st. at the Shelter.
Fly Safe,
Dale Edinger
