Due to Easter occurring on the first Sunday ... the next meeting for April is actually on Sunday, March 29 at 7:30pm at 9001 Hamot Rd.
So, you want to learn to fly an R/C Airplane? Thermal-G Eagles has flight instructors that will give new members valuable information on what equipment and/or airplane to buy as well as teach you how to fly. Yes,Thermal-G offers free instruction to any new pilot who is a member of our club and you must have a current Academy of Model Aeronautics(AMA) membership. If you don’t yet have an AMA membership, you can fly under your instructor’s AMA for up to 30 days. But, unless you have a difficult schedule, you will master the basics of flight in a very short time. From there it's just a matter of practice and striving to improve your newfound skills.
No R/C Airplane yet? No problem. Thermal-G has a dedicated trainer plane for you to fly to get you off the ground and see if you like flying an R/C airplane. Chances are, you will love it!
How will it happen? Well, a Thermal-G instructor will use a “Buddy Box” system that links to a transmitter you will use to control the airplane. The instructor can take over control with their "Buddy Box" transmitter if you get into trouble. Once stable again, the instructor can give control back to you to continue the lesson. However...no system is perfect which means...an 'unscheduled landing' is still a possiblity...but a much lower possibility than trying to learn without an instructor. What you will learn with a Thermal-G instructor is the How and Why of aeronautics and aviation best practices. This is a very safe way to learn and also protects the investment in your(or our) model airplane and surrounding people and property.
If you wish to schedule an appointment for flight instruction, please contact us by email at contact@thermalgrcclub.org as a best method to help you learn how to fly. Please remember that our dedicated and capable instructors are volunteering their time to help you. If you should need help in setting up your airplane, or test flying, there are many highly experienced club members who are also willing to help you. As a matter of fact, having a plentitude of willing, expert help available is a major reason to becoming a member of Thermal-G R/C club.
Best wishes and Happy flying!
